Parent/Family Search - Adoption

Greetings,

First I apologize for writing in English but I do not know how to read or write in Russian.

I am the father of a Russian born girl that I adopted from the Yaroslavl Region in 2002.

My daughter has asked me to try to make contact with any of her familiy that may still be living in Russia.

When my wife and I adopted Yulia, she was in the Children's Home in the village of Shirin'e.

село Ширинье

I will limit the amount of information that I present here, so that I may be sure that I have contacted members of her biological family.

Unfortunately, I do not have a lot of information to start with so this may be a slow process, but I made a promise, and I will try and do my best.

I have thought about this possibility very much and have talked with Yulia about it also, since our records show that her parents lost custody because of alcohol. It was a very difficult time in 1992.

Based on the little (small amount) information I received from the US adoption agency, I believe Yulia's mother is no longer alive, but that there is a possibility that her father is alive. Also, Yulia had an older brother who was not placed in an orphanage (as far as I know).

Yulia is almost 17, and would like to have some information or "facts" about her parents and other members of her family (especially her brother, and any living grand-parents, aunts, uncles or cousins).

Yulia now tells us that her father and brother visited a few times while she was in the orphanage. We were told by both the Russian and US agencies that there were no visits while she was there. I'm not sure who to believe, the memories of a child or the assurances of agencies who had an interest in placing a child with a family.

We have done our best, but Yulia is not always happy when she thinks about Russia, and what (or who) she maybe missing.

I hesitate to call the orphange directly, since I do not speak Russian and we live in a rural part of the US and do not have easy access to a translator.

Also, I have not told Yulia that I have started posting these messages. I need to make sure, as best I can, that the information is correct and that it won't cause her more sadness.

It's truth that you will hardly find someone of Yulia's biological family on this forum. Better to use help of professionals. Try to search them in Internet.

It's an official site of a Russian TV-show that helps to find people all over the world for many years. I believe they can help you. But only if Yulia's relatives want to be found.
